One of a kind. Flowers, fashion and interior design are all brought together out of a love of beauty. This is the retail concept of Johan Hemrica in Leeuwarden. They recently relocated to the ‘pretty’ side of the Nieuwestad and opened a brand new store. People are already saying ‘it is the most beautiful store in Leeuwarden’.
Long gloomy corridors
Igor van der Meulen of Imont Projectmontage worked together with stylists and DE Lichtadviseurs to design the store interior. What was the biggest challenge posed by this old building? “It was like a long, gloomy corridor. With no side windows, the only daylight that comes in is through the front. The biggest challenge was to flood this monumental building with light, and in such a way that the colourful products were shown at their very best.”
For the lighting, a decision was taken to use the Light4U Tube. In black, it perfectly matched the choice of the interior stylist, who had chosen to have the ceilings in black. The spotlights (with higher lumen in the shop window than in the shop) hang on a 3-phase rail. Not only do they look sleek, they are also fit in perfectly with the old sloping ceilings.
A sensory delight
According to Igor, who also designed the walls and shelves, the owner of the store is more than satisfied: “We get a lot of positive feedback. Even from people who come in to shop. Of course, your senses are stimulated by the products themselves, made from beautiful fabrics in wonderful colours and textures. That ‘eye-candy’ is now even better highlighted. There’s some truth in the rumours going round that this store is possibly the most beautiful in the city.”
